Efficient, Safe, and Simple Digestion
The SmartBlock II from Thomas Cain (a SEAL Analytical company) is a compact, graphite heating block that was designed to simplify and accelerate laboratories' digestion processes. By evenly heating up to 60 samples (with an option for 96 samples), the SmartBlock II helped labs achieve consistent results in less time—whether analyzing soils, sludges, drinking water, or wastewater. Its rugged Teflon® coating resists corrosion and sample contamination, while chemically inert, heat-resistant tubes eliminate the need for separate beakers, flasks, or storage containers. This means fewer steps, reduced reagent usage, and greater efficiency for environmental, industrial, and research labs.
Moreover, the SmartBlock II addressed common safety concerns of traditional bench-top digestion setups, offering features like a built-in temperature controller, over-temperature cutouts, and minimal heat transfer to the surrounding workspace. From EPA-approved methods such as 200.2, 200.7, 200.8, 7470A, 3050B, and beyond, the SmartBlock II is engineered to help laboratories meet regulatory standards without sacrificing productivity. With its small footprint and intuitive controls, this system delivers faster, more reproducible digestions that free up teams to focus on higher-value tasks—making it a dependable, cost-effective choice for modern metals and mercury analysis as well as persulfate digestions for Total Phosphorus and Total Nitrogen.
The SmartBlock product line was discontinued in 2022 as SEAL Analytical further concentrated on delivering best-in-class automation solutions, including our top-tier AutoAnalyzers, discrete analyzers, robotic handling systems, and automated digestion platforms like the DEENA series. By shifting our focus to these advanced automated systems, we continue to provide labs with cutting-edge, reproducible sample preparation methods that significantly reduce human error and enhance overall efficiency. While no longer manufactured or sold, the SmartBlock II remains fully supported by all regional SEAL Analytical teams, While no longer manufactured or sold, the SmartBlock II remains fully supported by all regional SEAL Analytical teams, ensuring labs that rely on its dependable performance can continue operating with confidence.
